    LAB- March 2. Aesthetics of the Still Image

    Goals:

    Students will practice using the cameras to shoot still images and upload them to their portfolio sights.

    1. Practice the photography concepts described in the reading and lecture; angles, framing, x, y and z axis, the rule of thirds.
    2. Practice modifying their portfolio pages by adding images.

    Briefly discuss trip to the museum of the moving image. Remind them that their blog posts were due today and that you will be grading them for next week.

    Briefly go over photography concepts mentioned above; angles, framing, x, y and z axis, the rule of thirds.

    Before sending students out to shoot make sure that set the camera to record to the external memory card.

    To take still pictures:
    1. Turn jog weal to still mode
    2. Make sure camera is on Automatic White Balance
    3. Frame shot using zoom
    4. Press the button on the op of the camera to take the shot.

    Send students out to shoot for 30 -40min. The images should reflect “Hunter College: A Day in the Life.” This can be interpreted however they choose.

    If they are interested, they can also submit these images to the Hunter College Library, for their contest. If they want to do this, they should look carefully at their site: http://library.hunter.cuny.edu/photocontest.htm

    Here, according to the Library, are the Technical Considerations:
    Photo submissions must be:
    1. In color
    2. Horizontal or landscape in orientation
    3. In JPEG format and a minimum of 72 dpi
    4. Taken by the individual student submitting them
    5. Photo series or essays may include up to five photographs

    To upload images to portfolio page:
    1. Rename the images they would like to use as “username_Image1.jpg” 2 and 3.
    2. Drag files into images sub folder in their portfolio sites
    3. In the html sub folder open the file called “images.html” in Dreamweaver
    4. In Dreamweaver click on the first purple placeholder.
    5. In the properties panel at the bottom of the screen link the “src” to the first image by clicking on the folder icon and choosing the image.
    6. Repeat this step for all three images.
    7. Save the page and view it in a web browser
