    LESSON PLAN FOR LAB 8

    Getting Started - Intro to Photoshop desktop, setting preferences (rulers on, inches vs. pixels, tool prefs.) Toolbar. Windows.

    EXERCISE 1: Opening an image in Photoshop: Download and open image. The file, "Veggie Head", is in the BB Site under Course Materials, as is an 'after' picture.

    Show students the following:

    Full screen mode/ toggle tools & windows.

    Moving around an image, scaling.

    Imaging Concepts: color modes, image size (how to read/layers) resolution (DPI) , and print size.

    Selection Tools: Square/Round/cut paste...

    Explain layers. How to turn on/off. Option key to isolate layer.

    Selection tools: square, round, lasso, magic wand. Command to cut. Option to subtract from selection. Shift to add. Click + Space bar to move copy, etc.

    Transform tools: scale / rotate / skew / flip etc.

    Grids: off and on. Add your own Guide.

    If there is time, do a second exercise.

    EXERCISE 2: Create a new file and build a Constructivist abstraction using shapes, colors, transformations. There are samples of Constructivist work in the same folder.

    Explain layers and tool set. e.g. brushes, eraser, rubber stamp, paintbucket/gradient, and text tool.

    For students who are already familiar with Photoshop, have them start immediately on the two assignments. These are available in the Assignments folder of the BB site, with Links to useful sites in the Links folder. (Students who do not know Photoshop can pick one of the two.)
