    Lab Demo / Practicum
Uploading site, photo and artist statement.

Students Access Blackboard to download zip file of student portfolio site.

TA briefly explains architecture of the site, what is kept in various folders, and what folders they will need to access today. Can look at site offline, before uploading.

Upload portfolio site into student SITES folder. Copy and paste so that a copy remains on the desktop.

*Note: this does not replace the index.html page that is in Sites as a place holder. In order to do this you would have to remove all of the files/ folders from the MEDP150-Revised folder (As it is called when you download it from Blackboard) and drag them into the Sites folder. This is sloppy because it leaves you with a bunch of random folders within the sites folder, and is generally a bad organizational habit to promote. (Rashawn agrees, I ran this by him and Anthony a few minutes before class when I realized it.)
I had my students rename the folder as Portfolio so that everyone’s home address is: Fmundergrad.hunter.cuny.edu/~LastnameFirstInitial/Portfolio/Index.html
This also gave me the opportunity to dissect the web address and explain that the / indicates a folder- Within the folder Portfolio is a file named Index.html etc

Students open Index page in Dreamweaver- TA can briefly explain correlation between code and image in split view, as time allows.
*Have students work with the files that are offline, on the desktop.

Students can re-type artist statement into Dreamweaver or for those with Word file, TA can explain how to open TextEdit, change to plain text and copy and paste into TE/ Dreamweaver from Word.

Students upload/ scan photo to desktop and rename and resize it exactly as it appears in Images folder.

Upload image into Image folder, replacing existing placeholder. View page offline.

The Portfolio site on their desktop has been modified. I told them to try to access the site online to see if the changes appear. (They don’t, and students have to figure out that they need to upload the changes to the Sites folder)

Students copy and paste modified Portfolio folder into Sites, replacing existing folder while maintaining a backup offline. They can then access their site at:
    Fmundergrad.hunter.cuny.edu/~LastnameFirstInitial/Portfolio/Index.html

Students can revise/ work on artist statements and practice uploading changes while in Lab.

TA assigns due date for completed Artist Statement. Students share artist statements with class if time allows.
Reminder of readings due for next Monday.
